Marbleizing the Peri Pedestal abernethy, March 23, 2021March 23, 2021 The Peri, a sculpture by the 19th century American artist Joseph Mozier, was the crown jewel of Nashville millionaire Adelicia Acklen’s art collection. Acklen was so attached to the artwork that she willed it to be moved to her mausoleum in Mount Olivet Cemetery at the time of her death. 120 years of exposure to the elements did not deal kindly with the Peri. In 2020, it was decided to replace the crumbling pedestal. Another replica pedestal, as well as a replica of the Peri itself, were made and place in Belmont Mansion’s Grand Salon. The Acklen mausoleum in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville, TN I was hired to marbleize the new cast pedestals in imitation of the original. Below are some images that show the progression of this intricate finish.
